"Inappropriate and excessive use of antibiotics has become a pressing global problem, leading to increasing antimicrobial resistance worldwide," she expressed, as quoted by Jakarta Government's press release, Wednesday (11/12).

She explained antimicrobial resistance is a phenomenon in which microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites become resistant to the effects of drugs that should be able to kill or stop their growth, making treatment more difficult, prolonging the course of the disease, increasing the risk of complications, and worsening health outcomes.

"This aims to increase public awareness of the importance of preventing antimicrobial resistance. Efforts to control antimicrobial resistance require collaboration and synergy from all parties," she explained.

Speaker from Faculty of Pharmacy, Pancasila University, Andri Prasetyo emphasized that all components of the nation, both from community organizations, social organizations, professions and the community must work together to improve understanding of drugs.

"The role of society in controlling antibiotic resistance is very important," he stated.

He added public understanding of antimicrobial resistance needs to be improved by complying with medication rules and implementing clean and healthy living behaviors.
